Substantive Editing
A substantive edit requires a look at the overall goals of the writing project and close work with the author to develop the writing to suit your purpose, function and audience. This is a comprehensive edit that focuses on organization, consistency of ideas and development of content. This does not entail writing or re-writing content for the author (see our Content Writing & Coaching if this is needed), but making suggestions on how to better convey the message or story. In addition, we look at grammar, punctuation, spelling and style to ensure proper word usage and correct awkward sentence phrasing.

One of the most important steps in the writing process is editing; however, it is often the most overlooked! Have you ever read a book, but struggled to complete it because it was distorted by error? Not only is the author's effort minimized, but the full impact of the writing is lost.
That's why we're here! After you’ve spent hours writing a book, creating webpage content or developing marketing materials, the final product should influence and inspire the reader. This is not the time to quickly release or publish your work! Instead, you need the benefit of our skilled editors to conduct a final review, fix grammatical errors, update punctuation and look with a critical eye for mistakes you may have missed.

Copy Editing
Our copy editing service focuses on checking for errors that will improve word flow and readability. It is not the intensive work that we do for substantive editing. Our focus is grammar, punctuation, spelling and style as we seek to ensure proper word usage and correct awkward sentence phrasing.

• Spelling mistakes
• Inconsistencies in tense
• Incorrect word choice – e.g. using ‘affect’ when ‘effect’ is meant
• Inconsistencies in formatting
• Incorrect punctuation
Proofreading is needed when your work has already been developed and copy edited and simply needs to be checked for missed errors. It is the last piece before publishing, and as such, one of the most critical parts of the writing process.

About the Editor
Chilesa Ready has been formally editing literature for over 10 years, but believes she's always been an editor. "I’ve never read a piece of writing that I wasn’t subconsciously proofreading and revising!" She is a licensed attorney, certified English teacher, licensed minister and blogger, but her passion is helping writers pen their stories and communicate a message. Her unique background allows her to use both her vocational expertise and theological experience to imbue hope in readers, which she says is her greatest joy!
Born in Dayton, Ohio, Chilesa grew up with her nose in a book and a yearning for adventure. In fact, deprivation of her current read was a frequent form of parental punishment! Her love for the written word served her well as she went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in English/Political Science and a law degree. She began an editing career and later joined the MoveU4ward team.

Submission Process
FREE SAMPLE/EVALUATION:
Send us a sample of your work (up to 2000 words) via the submission process below. Once your sample submission is received, we will evaluate it to determine the service you need and return a price quote within 24 hours.
Please submit all writing digitally as a Word document and know that your writing remains your unique product and within your exclusive right. Thus, it will be treated with the utmost care and privacy.
HOW TO SUBMIT:
All writing samples/submissions should be submitted in digital format (Microsoft Word) and sent via email to: editing@moveu4ward.net .
After the pricing is confirmed and a service agreement signed, we require 50% of the fee up front. The remainder is due upon completion of the project.
Normal edit turnaround is 5-10 days. This can be adjusted based on your need. A price increase may apply should you need it in less than 5 days.
We use Microsoft Word track changes application so that you have a record of our suggestions and comments. You are free to accept or reject changes.
